In my opinion, the Panasonic® Lumix® DMC-FZ30 digital camera is an incredible camera for the amateur photographer.
It features 14 built-in scene modes, auto exposure, auto focus and jitter control, which are all very valuable features for the amateur photographer. There are also manual controls and adjustments for everything, which allows me to override the automatic controls to take exactly the picture I want.
Many other basic features are built-in: Preset, custom and adjustable white balance; selectable ISO (80-400); 3 exposure metering modes; and individual sharpness, contrast and saturation adjustments. It also contains more advanced features like adjustable noise reduction and multiple AF modes; three- and single-area high-speed AF; and single-area (normal speed) and spot AF selections.
The fixed Leica 12x optical zoom lens (35-420mm 35mm equivalent) captures clear photographs with accurate color and exposure. The fine details could be a bit sharper, but overall I'm still convinced the picture quality is good to excellent. I have noticed a bit of noise, especially at ISO 80, but the camera does have manual noise-reduction adjustments, which do seem to help.
I'd highly recommend the Panasonic® Lumix® DMC-FZ30 camera for anyone serious about taking great amateur-quality photographs.
Where To Buy
I highly recommend Beach Camera (

) in Edison, NJ. I shopped extensively before purchasing my camera and Beach Camera's price was untouchable by any other retailer. Free FedEx shipping, thousands of positive customer reviews, the highest rating from the Better Business Bureau, an easy-to-use website and fully automated ordering system all combined to make my experience with Beach Camera exemplary.
